Back to the basics. Or so it is for Milind Soman, who returned to the ramp recently after a gap of six years. And, apparently, the man has lost none of his touch. When Milind walked the walk for a Sangeeta Kathiwada khadi show, he created a storm '' like always.
"I had stopped modelling six years back," says Milind, "Surprisingly, very few people are aware of this fact.
But the best part is that once I left modelling, I never missed it." So, how does he explain the comeback? "This show was all about promoting khadi '' it was for a good cause," offers Milind, who is now exploring new vistas in moviedom.
"I enjoy the medium of cinema. Modelling meant being with friends, travelling around and, basically, having a lot of fun. Acting, on the other hand, is much more challenging ''one really needs to work at it," explains Milind who, despite the challenge of cinema, insists that he enjoys his Bollywood innings.
"After 16 December and Agnivarsha, I am busy with other roles. Saazish and a production of my own starring Meera Vasudevan and Tanuja is keeping me busy for the moment," he informs.
But even as the poster boy of the world of modelling attempts to find a firm foothold in films, he has to contend with star children of the likes of Vivek Oberoi and Hrithik Roshan. "I believe that there is enough for everyone in Bollywood at the moment. There is more variety as far as roles are concerned," he reasons.
At the same time, the actor in Milind maintains that he has no preferences as far as roles go. "I don''t have any dream roles as such. Yes, I definitely don''t want to be typecast in a particular image. So, even if it means playing ''negative'' roles, I would be glad to accept," he says.
Caught in the midst of professional commitments and making a career for himself, Milind confesses that the rest can wait. "I will only settle down after four years or so. As of now, I am too busy with my work to be able to devote time to a relationship. But once I am ready, I will marry and settle down."
No dream roles, but there is a dream woman certainly? "She should be a working woman... someone who is just like me. I am still looking ''but the day I get her, I will just grab her!" he laughs.
Having gone through a range of experiences, Milind has been able to arrive at his own talisman for success. "Be it modelling or swimming, I have always quit when at my peak. In fact, I have never regretted any of my decisions and have never been driven towards anything because of the glamour value. I have followed my dreams as a passion," he reflects philosophically.
A faint hint of smile appears on his face. But then, when dreams are the driving force of one''s life, there is always a song on one''s lips. Ask Milind Soman.
